Here are my other two purchases from the Central States show yesterday. Car trouble wiped out the plans my friend Bill and I had to go on Thursday but we did make it for the final day of the show.

A lot of dealers had already headed out but there were still a handful of tables selling ancient coins.

The first is a silvered Probus SOLI INVICTO antoninanus with facing quadriga. This coin was my #1 goal for the show.

Then there was this gorgeous Lucius Verus denarius with beautiful blue and gold toning. It was the most expensive ancient coin I have ever purchased but worth it.

You did well. Two more great pickups. Wow, that Probus is sharp - great strike, and it's held up well.

That forward-facing quadriga is pretty cool. I don't remember seeing a design with this vantage point before. It must be significantly less common than the side view, or is it just that I haven't been paying close enough attention?

Fantastic Probus....

The front facing quadriga is a common enough type for Probus and was produced across multiple mints. The superb example above is about as good as they get for these and comes from Cyzicus and is RIC 911 Bust Type H.

We should be able to easily identify the date of the coin based on the mint mark. There is a peculiarity with this one. I originally read it as CM/XXIP but there appears to be something odd with the last letter. The only other option would be CM/XXIB but that doesn't seem to fit either. CM/XXIR would make no sense at all so it is either CM/XXIP with an engraver error on the P or CM/XXIB with a poorly formed lower part of the B.
