Hi Dewayne,
Beautiful photos, as usual.
You asked about authenticity and I would be a bit concerned. The 2 in the date looks thinner than normal and the bottom stroke is slightly curved. Photos of this key date on Heritage indicate that on genuine examples the 2 is heavier and the bottom stroke is quite flat on the lower edge. This is an expensive coin in VF grade and deceptive forgeries can be produced by carving the 4 on a 1941-D coin into a 2 shape.
I would insist on an authenticity guarantee before buying this coin. It does have a terrific original look and, if genuine, I think it would be a lock for minimum VF-20 at PCGS. I would immediately invest the grading fee and send it in.

I think this coin is VF20. It has a great look for the grade. Jaobler raises some important points on authenticity. The 21-D is rare in all grades and therefore a big candidate for copies. It is difficult to tell, but the "2" looks slightly more raised than the other numbers in the date. I found some of the 21-D's on Heritage have a flat lower edge to the "2" as Jaobler stated but others, particularly those not in mint state, seem to have some rounding in the "2", suggesting that the difference is a result of wear. If you acquire and submit, let us know how it turns out.

I'm not qualified to comment on whether it has been altered or not. It is at least a VF20. My guess would be VF25. VF30 would not shock me on that year. Here's a PCGS VF20 1921-S. The coin you posted, if authentic, should grade higher.

Thanks everyone! I was ask to post nice images of this key date for future references because of so many fakes being listed on ebay. The 21D in the VF30 grade is a very low pop coin with a total of 27 coins graded at this grade at NGC and PCGS combined.
