Look at this, as often happens I see a coin and say wow, that seems like a great price for how good it looks .. and then dig in a little and realize why it is so cheap. My bet is someone wanted to construct a 1804 but came to realize the futility

I would be tempted at that price. Nice details other than the obvious.
$800 I would buy.

Wow, that's crazy. Never seen a "last digit in date removed" details grade before. No doubt they thought they would make an 1804 out of it. Posting images for posterity.

The slightly coppery appearance in the worn parts leaves me a little nervous - certainly enough to pass.
XRF should prove either way.
I find it difficult to understand why anyone would want to alter the date on an 1803 Dollar, despite the obvious value of the famous 1804 date.

I wonder if it was used as a source coin for counterfeits. Someone could make dies for 1800, 01, 02 and 03 out of it in addition to 1804.

Listing is gone now. Seems odd, it didn't violate any rules that I could see.
Edit: Hmm, I didn't notice before but it appears to have been cracked out, since the label is free. Maybe that's the issue.
