Looks like some sort of acidic damage.

Certainly didn't happen at the mint. Hard to say exactly how it got damaged but damage it is.

It spent quite a bit of time in a fountain or ocean or some other weakly acidic liquid.

Probably the weight is reduced on this coin.

Thanks, the weight is 2.8 grams.It doesn't look acidic, perhaps found underground.

Coin has been through a fire. Missing weight would be from heated copper turning to slag and sluffing off.
