Delving into the coin cherry pickers hobby, I found this 1942 Wheat penny that I would like to have information on, such as would this be considered a coin Cud error? ETC. Should I have it graded?
Thank you ahead for your expertise comments.

Not a Cud or an error, it is PMD. Taken some sort of a hit damaging the rim.

FYI, this is what a Cud looks like

I agree that is damage rather than a Cud (or any other mint error). With a Cud, the rim is full, but part of the field adjoining the rim is filled in as noted by @jimmy. Common date wheat cents with circulation wear are worth a few cents, but the rim damage on this one pretty much eliminates any premium above face value. This coin does not need to be slabbed.

Post-strike damage to the rim area only, not a Cud.

Looking at your coin, you can see where the rim was shoved into the edge of the coin. Just damage. Just like a wrecked car is not a factory error, this coin is not a mint error. PSD.
