Hi everyone. Is anyone able to tell me what the identifying marks are for the late 1920's and 1931 Florin counterfeits created by Manders and Twible at the time? I have found information on the counterfeit shillings of the 1920's but have been unable to find details on the Florin. Does anyone have examples or information that they can post?

Note the position of the R in REX. It is above the E. On genuine examples the position is different.

One of my favourite older topics, Twibble and Manders didn't know each other it seems. Twibble died in prison in 1930, he had been incarcerated again in the Sydney jail since 1928 for counterfeiting. He was charged with making 100 counterfeit florin coins, having 7 moulds for coining in his possession and the 3rd charge was uttering 1 florin. He pleaded guilty to 2 of the 3 charges, having 100 counterfeit florins and the uttering charge. He was given 5 years. The Manders tale happens in 1932ish from memory. http://web.archive.org/web/20110930081325/http://www.triton.vg/Manders.html

Quote: Twibble and Manders didn't know each other it seems That's interesting,i thought they were in cahoots together and I read a book on them, many years ago. New book being written on them and forgeries in general,i guess Covid has delayed its release as I haven't seen anything. Triton link won't work for me and my old links come up with a Google warning for some reason.

I've got the same book , I think, about Frank Fahey, the Undercover policeman. The links aren't working for me anymore either it seems.

Jon Saxton (the operator of triton.vg) died of cancer a few years ago so his site is no longer running.
There was a recent article about fake florins in the Coin and Banknote magazine that talked a bit about Manders and Twibble.
