For the record:
Pop is what we say in Minnesota. penny=cent, but I say cent and don't worry about "penny talkers" Christian_Cyclist - last week I left a dime (i.e. ten cents) in a "take a penny/leave a penny" at my local Chinese restaurant, so I think you are covered.

Nope, one of the first things I was hammered on when my collection started.

Of note...there is a forum that gears more toward people who hoard copper cents called realcent (some of you may be members already). Anyway, they have different levels based on the number of posts like they do here.
1 star: "Penny Sorter Member" 2 stars: "Penny Pincher Member" 3 stars: "Penny Collector Member" 4 stars: "Penny Hoarding Member" 5 stars: "1000+ Penny Miser Member"
Seems like the whole "cent" vs "penny" thing makes no difference to them. :)

I am one to "correct" people for calling our cent a penny, but it is mostly in fun and only amongst friends that understand my reasoning. Quote: doesn't matter to me as long as its Pepsi

I must say I am disturbed by some of the posts here. Not because of "penny" or "cent".... I noticed some Pepsi drinkers! It's Coca-Cola all the way! (and it's "pop" not "soda")

The answer to the Great Penny/Cent debate is obvious! A Cent is a Penny thats been removed from circulation and placed in a collection! And the correct term for a carbonated beverage is "soda pop". Generally Northerners shorten it to "pop" and Southerners "soda". Anyhow, it's all good! ;)

Just a thought, "I don't get the whole "cent" vs "penny" thing, either. Nickels don't say "nickel" on them. The mint has referred to cents as pennies." If anyone should get it right it would be "us" you are right it does not say nickel on the nickel "It says FIVE CENTS, we all know the difference and left unchecked there would be no place for proper nomenclature, so lets use the Queens English as we were taught, I agree with others, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, fifty-cents,....

I guess South Florida isn't far south enough, Because when I moved there from Pennsylvania where we called it "pop", I was ridiculed because they called it "soda" collectively.

Do I need to start calling my penny loafers, cent loafers? Or will "shoes" work OK?

Wow, I'm sorry I brought it up, or is that down. Well I better just quit or that will be debated also.
