@1st, this is an interesting cent. It looks to me like the obv was struck through a substantial amount of grease rather than the lack of detail being due to wear or circulation flattening. For sure there is some of that, but this one is probably worth saving in a 2x2. I'm interested to see if others agree.

Hi everyone!! Thank u so much for your input!! When you say save 2x2 . what exactly does that mean? Sorry . I'm so new to this! & "keeper" meaning keep for my grandkids or keeper as in send to be graded? (I'm obsessed with finding that one coin worthy enough to be graded! Lol- I don't even care about the money!) :)

Not worth sending in. 2x2 is a carboard coin holder you staple together. John1

Great example of struck through grease--an industrial grade grease, not bacon grease.

How to tell if it is grease? Note the devices that are still visible. Note how they are wider than normal? The devices on a die are tapered. Narrow at the tops of the devices. If they weren't then the die would strike the coin and the coins would not fall out of the die. Thus they are tapered, When grease gets into the die, it fills the deepest parts first. The coins will show wider looking devices: This is what your are seeing on the tops of the still visible devices. Full, they disappear. CoopHome: How to tell if it is grease?
