This one I thought was interesting. Not sure if it was minted like this or not. There's no grading from one color to the next.

Given the images posted, it appears to be an environmental staining issue.

I agree with @ijn that this looks more like chemical/environmental exposure. Also, welcome to CCF.

I agree, the plating seems to have been eaten away by a foreign substance, not a mint error.

Thanks for the welcome and the info. The only reason I question it is because the rim is not discolored and there's a pretty sharp line dividing them. But yall know more than me so I'll take your word for it. Should I leave the post or delete it?

The coin may have been in a cup holder, face down and gotten into coffee or a soda that altered just the area of a small spill in the holder. (The stain affects the plated coins more, so it is probably because of change put in there that is why we see it more often. In the past, we didn't have cup holders.So we won't go into a discussion on how they kept our drinks safe. (The handed drivers without seat belts pretty much sums it up) Thus the term, "Don't Drink and drive." (Also the Answer was: "Cause you might spill your drink!")
