Does this coin impression on flips only happen with PVC flips? It looks nasty to me...makes me sad when I buy a nice coin and get it in one of these!

Happens with non-PVC flips, too. You would think they would use a new flip for a nice coin, but I guess you buy the coin, not the flip.

From what I've seen, I'd say that's pretty normal for any type of flip a coin has been in for a while.

These happen with all Flips, Pvc or otherwise

Quote: I would grade this flip at. VF-40 What did you rate flip ? Perhaps the seller specially packed the coin in such a flip to send to you. I do that sometimes, too. I don't see anything wrong with the coin being stored in such a flip for 3-4 days while the letter goes to your mailbox.

Appears to be a repurposed flip--they're everywhere. As for a grade, VF35 works for me.

In my experience, a "good" high-quality flip that forms a ring of deposits, only does so because the coin already had PVC goo on it before being put into the flip. This might happen if a dealer buys a coin collection that was kept in a pVC album, and decides to fish out the best coins from the album and put them in flips, without washing the coins first.
Some of the goo then comes off the coin and gets stuck on the flip.

I, myself will only use a non PVC flips to send off to a TPG. Any plastic flips I get from sellers I toss into the trash as soon as I get the coin out and properly stored.

Taking this further, I wouldn't recommend soaking flips in acetone...

It is rare I buy a coin in a flip, but when I have it was removed promptly; usually for a Dansco hole.
