I have no experience looking at or reviewing ICG coins. I see a beautiful MS 65 commem that looks quite nice on ebay with 30 day return. I'd rather not waste my time if there is systemic issues with ICG material. I'm curious to find out the community's thoughts on the service as it is now, not before the ANACS-ICG switchover that occurred some years ago.

This is what it boils down to.

If you can grade for yourself, you will be fine and will be able to take advantage of the discounted ICG coins.

ICG - Independent Coin Graders or I Can't Grade.

I would rank the TPG's as follows:
PCGS
NGC
ANACS
ICG

The ICG grading is a little softer than PCGS and NGC. I agree with the statement above, "If you can grade for yourself, you will be fine and will be able to take advantage of the discounted ICG coins".

ICG is one of only four graders accepted by ebay.
All others will have their listings removed.

I agree with the upthread comments. ICG is solid with authentication and attribution. Their grading for circulated (AG-VG) and midgrade (F-VF) coins is pretty decent. They struggle with sliders and 19th Century coins. They are way too enthusiastic with MS-63-64-65-66 coins. On some of the tougher series (Buffs, SLQs), they can undergrade coins, so grade cherrypicking is possible. Don't fear them, but definitely don't give them blind reliance.

In short, they are a decent assurance of authenticity, but always grade the coins for yourself.

With the possibility that someone here will grab it, here's the coin I'm referring to: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/1926-Orego...irect=mobile].

The same seller sold a ICG MS65 for $250 in April, so the price is at fair market value. The only negative that I see is a small scratch on the reverse. Is the scratch enough to drop the coin to 64 at PCGS or NGC? Maybe
