Poll Question
I'm putting together a SBA album. I have freed my SBA's from the uncirculated sets and put them in a nice Littleton Album. I have an entire set (minus the 81' type 2) in PF69 PCGS holders. The Poll is should I free them and put them in the album or should I leave them be in there protective PCGS holders? To free or not to free that is the question

P.S. I don't plan on every getting rid of them unless I get in a bind and absolutely have to sell them.

Poll Choices
 Set those Susies Free!!!
Leave them in their holders for there own sake.

The way I look at it, with modern coins like the SBA's and the Sacs, It's a personal choice to free or not to free. Looks like you don't plan on selling so if you would like them in your album, then free em. Then there comes the question of did you pay to get them slabbed. If so, I'd leave them in the slabs. JMO.

I would leave them all in the slabs and make a slab set...there are books for slabs to do this...I started one with high grade Lincolns a while back...obviously some really jump in price when you get to the MS-70's for modern or MS-65's for early dates...when it's all done it'll be a nice investors set but you can only do what you can...just keep them in slabs...that'll help them from toning to much.

yes. free them. Aside from the 1981 type 2, the only other expensive SBA proof is the 1979 Clear S. And the album is only 2 pages long, with 2 empty slots?

Anyway, you already made the decision by buying the proof album... Otherwise, you should have bought the non-proof album.

If you paid premium prices for PF69 coins, then I say leave them in the slabs and just buy some raw coins for the album. The slides in an album could potentially create friction hairlines on a proof that would not be noticeable on an MS coin, thus taking your PF69 down to a 67 or even 65 and taking the premium over a raw coin with it. I have an SBA album as well but I purchased all my proofs as raw coins. I do not have an 81-S T2 but I do have a 79-S T2- however, I obtained the 79-S from a teller scratch tray at a bank for face value so it already is slightly impaired and album slides will not make it any worse.

You know me, I say set them free! But that is just my opinion.

Since the SBA is a short set, I can see the appeal of having them all slabbed and in an album for slabs.

Let em loose. They will always be there for you and you will still always love them.

I myself wonder why somebody would pay to slab a coin/ or pay more for a slabbed coin only to remove it? I do realize some people resubmit the same coin hoping to get a better grade. But this doesn't seem to be the case. I say leave them slabbed.

There are many reasons. Some people like the added security that the coin they are buying is authentic. Sometimes you can only find that coin you want, in the condition you want, in a slab.

Personally, I try to avoid it and have been successful so far. But as I get down to certain key dates, I am finding that more and more of them are in slabs. I keep looking, but I might have to give in and buy a slabbed coin.

I have a set minus only the 81S type 2. All mine are in airtites. I plan on buying a slabbed 81S type 2 just to make sure its for sure the right type, wont take me but a few minutes to bust it out ;) If you do not plan on selling, bust them open. Or you could keep them slabbed, work on a full slab set and just buy some raw proofs. This way you have both slab set and raw set :) :)

Thanks for the input. I think I will stick to my original plan of buying raw proofs. Where can - get an album for slabbed coins? I suppose it would be neat to have both slabbed and raw sets.
God bless,
Brad

I have a complete set of SBAs, and I plan on slabbing my Type 2s. What I plan to do to remedy the album problem is get 2 extra type 1s for those dates and use them to fill the holes. That way, I get a completeed album, but I still have my keys protected in a slab. Just an idea.
