Very cool, I think it may be worth having it graded, definately a more desirable piece then just a Cud.

If it was a local find, you might be in a target area where these were shipped. So check to see if there are more in your area. You might have something that is just in your locality. If so, save a many as you can find. The demand will increase as time goes on. So keep it hush in your area.

We would still appreciate closer and more pictures, to find out exactly what it is. That reverse looks interesting.

Hello Christobler570 and welcome .

Really nice example you found, maybe a couple other people as well .

John1, yes I would send to PCGS!

Chris I hope I did this correctly trying to post a picture of what I believe reverse looks like to me, though a bit hard to tell without an angle shot of your coin I believe possibly it's a bi-level die crack if pic doesn't come up, someone posted a link I believe it was (John1 and I apologize ahead of time if wrong, I am not sure how to leave here to look and get back), posted a link about obverse I agree with obverse, though what I am referring to is the reverse and that same link shows an example at or near the bottom of page. I believe with progression some will be less noticeable and some will be extremely noticeable shattered/catastrophic die failure. I believe we have already seen a reverse that is not as dramatic as yours, with almost identical obverse though so keep looking, I would think this one you have is in the middle and to me a bit more desirable though I love them all, my favorites are really odd looking what used to be called freaks and may or may not be errors but I still keep the ones that I consider give the coin some character/quaint. When I heard about this I knew I had my bags still in boxes from mint just waiting to be opened, haven't had much time lately. I do have a dime similar but not completely sure if man-made or error so I will have to post it eventually. I definitely agree with the others on the obverse of coin. Though I am new to the coin community as well, I've been collecting/searching for coins/errors/oddities about 40+ years now, I do a lot of research (though still learning and no expert) the people here with way more posts are the experienced experts in my eyes, they are very nice, and extremely helpful. I may very well find that I am wrong about reverse.
I have several coins I need/want to post, but being on west coast most everyone (the experts) are sleeping when I post .
Chris congrats and keep looking for the progressions of that coin, again welcome to this wonderful coin community &.

@Dearborn I really hope it is the bi-level on reverse, that's what it looks like to me.
Really great call letting Chris know to keep it safe as well.
And hopefully you can pass on to the other folks who have similar, I probably couldn't find them again lol.
Thanks again & .

The obverse displays a Retained Cud of the anvil die. The reverse shows a bi-level die crack with an amazing amount of vertical displacement. That means the surface cracked while the metal beneath underwent significant plastic deformation. Contra Coop, I see no evidence of a die clash.
Error coin writer and researcher.
