Hello all! I have a 1968 S Lincoln Cent with an interesting obverse! I believe it is an unknown DDO for this series. Why would I make such a statement, simple I searched Copper coins, Lincoln Cent Resources, Wexler, and Variety Vista and could not find a match. Of course I could have found Machine Doubling again (curses) but I think not. The coin is brown and dirty so lots of pics. With doubling on Liberty, the right side of Lincoln's nose chin and top of jacket and the date, it isn't as shelf like as Machine Doubling normally is. There is none on IGWT or on the top of Lincoln's head. It appears to be the middle region of the coin. Obviously the mintmark would not be affected as the mint added it after the coin was struck. I know my record is not good when it comes to DDO's. But even I get lucky occasionally. So let me know your thoughts and if I'm wrong, oh well I'll keep trying. Regards all.

In my opinion, you have a nice, classic example of machine doubling--not that uncommon with '68 S memorial cents. I've come across many of these over decades of cent searching. Others will be along to weigh-in.

I agree with ijn1944 - classic MD. It is shelf-like and shifted in the same direction. It looks like the tip of Lincoln's nose took a hit, making that area appear to be different.

Keep searching. You'll eventually get there.

@all, of course a coin can be both a doubled die and have MD. Yours looks like MD on the date, LIBERTY, and Abe, but circulation flattening on IGWT.
