Hello, I was looking for RPM's in some rolls I had and I noticed this guy. It absolutely looks like an upside down 2 is in place of the S in TRUST. I went through 2 more rolls of 54-S and none look like this one. There is no blatant rim damage or anything to make me suspect it was PMD. Have a look...
If that feature was, indeed, a backwards inverted 2, there would be several hundred if not a few thousand examples minted. I suspect, given the pics posted, that were dealing with a mix of Die Deterioration and subtle post-strike damage. It could be that the die had become slightly damaged in the vicinity of the S. The word TRUST is showing evidence of die deterioration--just my opinion.
Just a slight hit on the top of the S, flattening out the upper curve a little. If it were an upside down 2, then it is also backwards too (mirrored - which it ain't BTW)
