Don't look at the outside/inside edges. That is where you will see die wear or Machine Doubling. On a doubled die look for the spread on the devices.

Take another look at your coins devices? Note that the affected area is a 90 degree angle. A sure sign of Machine Doubling. Note the opposite side of the devices? they contour is still there on that side. So the MD removes that contour and damages that edge of the devices.
