1970 S Penny, Look How Close The MM Is To The Date

1970-S-Penny,-Look-How-Close-The-MM-Is-To-The-Date
Has anyone seen the mm this close to the date before. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pic could be better. Until 1990 mint marks were hand punched into each working die so the placement will vary. Still within tolerance.

@coin, first welcome to CCF. Second, as noted by @john the mint marks were added to the dies by hand and therefore are sometimes closer to different design features. To answer your specific questions, we have seen mint marks this close to the date previously.

There would be be hundreds of thousands the same as yours,
depends on how many strikes that particular die produced.
Neither rare nor unusual.

The mintmarks were hand punched into the dies until 1990. So the locations will vary on the pre 1990 coins.

So it is inside the normal target area. Right of the bust and under the date. It appears normal.
