I found this online, and it's not pretty by any means, but it is a good coin to collect. The only question I have is about the date of the coin. It is damaged too much too see the date, or I'm just blind. The seller has a good reputation, so I don't think they are lying about the date. Can anyone clearly see this date? These are the best pictures I can get.

Would not purchase this as a 1797, I can't see that last digit. There are plenty of better 1797 examples out there, choose another. Don't even mess with a coin of this poor quality.

I agree, move on and find another coin. I was looking at the reverse to see if it could be attributed to a 97, but the reverse is heavily worn and scratched.

Almost certainly a 1798 right? That last digit is clearly rounded at the top, either an 8 or 9.

It looks more like a 1798. Tough coin to sell in the future.

1798 was my first thought.

I agree with 1798 before I read any replies. I'd pass on this one.

Looks like a last digit of "8"...too indefinite for me to purchase.

I had to recheck the title of this thread because I saw an 8 and not 7. I also would pass on this coin.
