I'm new to all this so please bear with me while I'm in the learning curve thank you. This Lincoln Cent I found today looks really good to me it's quite crisp. I noticed a difference though on the C located in the cent word what would cause this odd looking raised line, could it be a crack formed in the die? The pics I took after reviewing I can see Lincoln sitting in the back of the monument and it really intrigued me to look closer as I haven't gotten a microscope yet, does anyone have a suggestion on a first microscope for coins, where is the best place to purchase?

I'll say AU-53, just a spender. to the CCF!

Grade wise I say AU-50/BN. The anomaly seen on the letter C is a the result of a hit in circulation. I do not recommend you to purchase a microscope, a 10X pocket loupe would do the job.

I could see AU50-52. Certainly a circulated example with dings and such, no heavy wear (like one might find on early wheat cents).

The C has taken hits and displaced the metal, not a die crack. Spender for sure.

finding a LMC in circulation that has more value than its copper is very rare indeed. age has no affect on the value of a coin. as someone new to the hobby using the PCGS photograde will help you, at least, get into the right grade level such as G,VG,F,VG,XF,AU & MS by comparing you coin side by side. it takes an understanding of each series regarding what the high points are in each series is so that you can determine a finer grade by assessing actual wear. every series is different so start off with what interests you and learn as much as you can about them. following CCF posts here will help immensely in developing those skills. everyone here, even those who have been doing this for decades are still learning. https://www.PCGS.com/Photograde/

To CCF , AU-50 is the most I can give you on that Lincoln Cent . There are a couple of hits and showing full circulation brown toning . Very common date and mint though getting harder to find .

Pretty heavy wear, most evident on the reverse.
