i have a 1953 D penny I'm just curios why is it black is it something to do with grease or is it from after the mint I have another one its a 1951 I will post it after this one

Corrosion, dirt, staining, just environmental damage.

I use to metal detect and found cents just like that in the ground. the minerals in the ground is like acid to coins.
