I found this beauty of a coin online, and the price actually quite good. The only thing that makes me hesitate to buy it is the vertical lines on the right side of the obverse. Are those cleaning lines or just from circulation?

Not cleaning lines or circulation lines. Those are either copper plating issues or were on the zinc core before being copper plated. What is the price?

So I'm in a dilemma. The price is JUST $100 for a minimum bid and it is JUST $1000 for the buy it now price. Nobody has bid on it yet, so I really want to place a bid. The big problem is that I don't have $100 and my parents wouldn't let me spend that type of money on a coin that they think isn't valuable at all. I'm only 14 years old, I don't have a job. This would be an incredible deal for a ms 92 Close AM penny, but like I said, there are multiple reasons I can't get it. What should I do?

This coin is easily worth 4-7 grand because it looks to be in ms 63-65 range. Whoever gets this coin would get a great snag. You don't see this everyday. A 1992 Close AM penny in this condition for just an $100 starting bid? Unbelievable.

I would never bid on a high value coin from a zero feedback ebay seller with a 2 1/2 year old account that has zero activity.

As Admiral Akbar would say, "It's a trap!"

Someone knows enough about coins to identify a 1992 D CAM but then offers it at a buy it now price of 20% of it's value?

That doesn't make sense to me. Would you offer to sell the coin at that price if you were a dealer? If you send them $1,000 I doubt you'll get anything back, but almost certainly it won't be the coin pictured.

If they know enough to ID a rare and valuable coin then they know enough to price it accurately. Failing to do so sends red flags flying all over the place.

I'm hearing a lot of red flags if they're selling it that low. I would pass on it, especially if you can't afford it.

. Numerous red flags.
Let me be a skeptic about. Why the different backgrounds of obverse and reverse shots?

SCAM ALERT That coin pic is taken from PCGS website.
https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...-am-rd/83101
It is the top coin on the right. It is graded MS66RD. That makes it EXTREMELY unlikely that the person selling it online has it.

I agree with your parents [and everyone else], let it go.

...check out this one - they even split it in half so that you can see both sides of the coin. /s

edit: put that $100 into a good mutual fund

It is so nice to have knowledgeable people on here to get advice such as this. Thanks everyone, even if this one isn't for me.
