I have a 1935 Buffalo nickel that has a huge chunk taken out of it, possibly by a bullet. It was found by my grandfather when he was in the US Military working on building roads in Toul, France in 1952. Aside from the, ya know, huge bullet hole, it is in solid condition.

I think this is pretty cool, but I'd love to know what others think. Is this valuable or rare? Is this actually a bullet hole? It could also be a result of a jackhammer or something.

Thanks

Could be a bullet hole, hard to say with certainty. No extra value, it is a damaged coin. A neat conversation piece.

An interesting conversation piece with "value" as a family heirloom passed down from your Grandfather.

Treasure it dearly until it is time to pass it down to your descendents.

I agree, it is possible it's been shot. I've put bullets through more than a fair share of coins in my younger years, but probably no way to know for sure. However, as already mentioned the only value would be as a memento or conversation piece. I do agree it's pretty cool, and if it was from my grandfather I'd treasure it!

Certainly seems consistent with other purported bullet wounds on coins previously posted here:

Thanks for the information. I think it probably is a bullet hole and I'll keep it as a memento
