ok I'm still having trouble figuring out what a doubled die looks like so on my 1989 D quarter it looks doubled to me in the in god we trust so what do you guys see is it doubling did I get this one right?

I'm thinking Machine Doubling, not a doubled die.

The word "TRUST" looks like Machine Doubling (MD)...you get that flat step appearance.

I found this one more confusing than most @pris due to the circulation flattening. This made the letters in IGWT wider and is partly counteracted by the Machine Doubling.

with MD the devices (the lettering or design) are smaller than they should be. with Doubled die devices - they get thicker (wider) hope this helps.

When you look at the outside/inside edges during circulation those are the two areas where you will find either Machine Doubling or towards the rim, die wear on the dies. Neither are a plus for a coin, as well as circulation flattening. Mostly on quarters, the flattening is vending machine damage to the devices near the edges of the coins.
