That has to be one of the best strikes on a Peace dollar that I have seen so far (reverse especially).
Condition MS-65+?

I am suspicious considering the seller.
I just compared with my copy but could not find anything pointing to a fake.

Can you?

I am not an expert with these.

The only thing that makes me a bit suspicious is how well the reverse legends are struck up. Perhaps they are just too sharp.

Maybe?two reasons for this:
1. This coin is the result of a die pressure trial, - for more usual business strikes the die pressure was much less.
2. Coin is a fake made from recycled .900 fine silver. A top condition coin was laser scanned and a very precise digital model created for instructions to cut a new die, and properly hardened, and maybe electro nickel faced to further harden the striking surface of the die.
To make the die as precise to the original, the cutting could have been done with the assistance of an electron microscope. The only fault that makes me a bit suspicious, is that the reverse legends are too high in relief.

I have had access to this sort of apparatus to investigate the authenticity of ancient coins.

All of the above is postulation on my part, but perhaps it deserves at least some discussion.

To me, it seems like the legends just don't look right. If you compare to existing copies it looks like it could be a fake. I'd be dubious, looks too good to be true right?

Screams fake to my eyes. Too many off details to the design elements.

@HP2001HP

It appears to me to be a marriage of a legit obverse and a fake reverse. As you noticed the plummage is not quite right. Neither are the shapes of the letters. All based upon looking at a picture. A scope inspection would certainly show a lot more that indicates fake.

Counterfeit
Just look at the rays on the reverse, they are too thick
for a well struck coin.

While I believe its real and just heavily photo processed, I wouldn't take the risk. Look at all fields, they are soft. Even the picture just doesn't look like right.

I know you want a Peace dollar, I'm going to my coin shop this week if you want I can pick a nice one and send you some photo's. It will be much cheaper than ebay. Message me and I'll email/text you some pictures. You can then work out a deal with the coin shop owner to have him ship it to you.

I agree:-
feather detail on eagle's back more distinct on Photograde MS-61(ref.) coin genuine business strike, (which according to my reasoning above) shows up with less die pressure.

Thus:-
false dies for coin referred to in OP's ebay link.

Reported condition MS-65 irrelevant.

hfjacinto,

Kind offer, but I am good, thanks. I do own several Peace dollars, just monitoring ebay on the look for nice copies. They hardly come up though.
