@coin, you might be interested to read this post by the CCF press, which describes the coins most likely to be counterfeit that are submitted to NGC for authentication and grading. It doesn't exactly answer your question, but does provide some perspective.

According to this article, it is the 1909 S VBD cent.

This topic is Very Interesting, When offered Chinese Counterfeits while overseeing a coin shop, I started to acquire more. They are allowed in China, Just NOT allowed to be exported out of China, HA !!!! There is a Very Strong interest in the " coins " !!!!! The 1909-S VDB, is faked, I would like to see More on this topic Collect Away !!!!

There are certain coins that I know are counterfeited a lot. UK pounds, Saudi Arabia Gold Guinea, Tetradrachms, old Japanese/ Korean coins, of course Chinese coins, etc.

I would assume the most valuable coins are probably the most counterfeited, assuming they are still common enough to be able to be counterfeited in mass.

I heard there are more counterfeit 1909-s vdb's than there were ever minted!

I'd say with the right equipment ANY coin, medal or token can easily be duplicated or counterfeited.

This particular "token" is an example, the 1998 NORFED Shelter system.
This is the original design that was being sold on a website as pieces that were confiscated and later returned to the owner. however, I learned from the creator they were copies that were struck using the original dies..

Or, the 2005 W nickel

(No proof '09 ASE or '05 W nickels were ever struck by the U.S. mint)
