So the first one I posted was my Dad's...I bought this one when I was 12. You can tell who had a real job to afford the extra $3.00 I paid $2.00 for mine...my Dad paid a whopping $5.00 for his. He's darkened up a little since then...now shows what looks like some woody traits on the reverse. I don't know if there's enough RD for a RB designation...the reverse might carry him? I think it's AU-55/58 RB Am I close? Thanks again for looking! smat

Dark areas in the images make it a bit difficult to see surface detail. As it is, I'm seeing a high AU. Woody, yes.

I have trouble deciding whether small smooth spots are wear or just strike weakness on coins like this. My thought process is that if it circulated enough to be slightly worn it also would have picked up more dings than this coin has, so I'll say MS64.

This is a really close call, it comes down to the luster. If the coin cleanly cartwheels, 63/64, if not, AU-58.

I will look twice at the coin. For me seem to be a Serbian VDB. Here I attach the PCGS photo of the VDB. In same time look at the line in AMERICA. The originals have the bottom of the letters perfect in line. Also the wheat seem not really correct.

Quote: For me seem to be a Serbian VDB. Hmmm...? Were Serbian VDB's being produced in 1973? Would it have been worth their time and money...this isn't the S VDB... Sorry about my lighting...I've got the downloading down to size part down pretty good...I'll work on my lighting. He does have decent luster...and there is more RD than the pic depicts. I was kind of thinking MS myself...but the hair seems soft...there are no open field hits or devise hits... I'm just gonna mark on the flip AU-58/MS-63 slider. Thank you for all the replies! smat

Smat- In your 1st post you thought the grade was 55-58. The majority of people agree with you. Now you're questioning everyone's opinion(even your own) and saying you think it's MS?

@SMAT, the Serbian VDB was for all coins not only for S. Please look at the V . D . B of the original Philla Mint and your coin. You has to analyze the coin. Other think it is the color of the coin. In 1909 was bronze, your coin has the brass color. The Serbian fake was discovered first from the color of the coins back in 1978-1979. After the big melting of the wheat cents in 1980 the Treasury Department give OK to be publish articles about those fake coins, and this occur first time in 1983.

Now you're questioning everyone's opinion(even your own) and saying you think it's MS? Hey...I'm only human... I thought that the hair looked soft...but I couldn't figure out why there were no nicks/marks/rubs on him...my default was AU because of the hair... So...after a couple of replies also questioning the surface details (how clean they are)...I just second guessed myself..."Am I close"? I'm not an expert by any means...and I appreciate the feedback...does make me look like a donkey to begin with...but a donkey with a smile on his face...hehaw hehaw smat Guess that's why I asked...

Donkey's is in the first 5 more intelligent been after the humans on the earth. So is good. May I can ask you how many grams has the coin? Please. You think what you think and I accept. In fact you accept the opinions or just submit for grading and you will learn yourself.
