1969-D Lincoln Cent Is This Common To Have This Much Machine Doubling?

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/27/2022 9:36 pm The 1968-1972 cents often have Machine Doubling issues, even on doubled dies. Note the date is showing hub doubling, but the mintmark is normal. Then note the yellow arrows. They are pointing to Machine Doubling on a doubled die strike. Note the affected areas are affected in the same fashion: 1. The MD is present on the outside/inside edges of the devices. 2. The mintmark is not showing a DDO, (which is normal) but the mintmark is showing Machine Doubling, meaning it happened to the coin after the strike. A doubled die can can have machine doubling, but Machine Doubling never creates a doubled die. Only a doubled die, can create a doubled die coin. (with or without Machine Doubling) Depending on how loose the machine is. Edited by coop 08/27/2022 9:37 pm Report this Post to the Staff
