The mint mark looks to have taken a 'moosh' hit. I believe we have Die Deterioration issues on the reverse--through QUARTER DOLLAR. Others will be along to comment. Report this Post to the Staff

Since 1965 all quarters have been clad (copper and nickel layers sandwiched together). The image of the edge of the coin looks completely normal to me. Report this Post to the Staff

If copper is not new, it will look darker than when new, polish or clean a cooper cent and look at color. The quarter is not silver but nickel and it also will be different color "lighter" if polish or as you say rubbed. Report this Post to the Staff
