1995 BIE Lincoln Cent Found! - Coin Community Forum

This is the 2nd abnormal coin I have found from the 100 pound penny jug. I am not sure whether to call it an error or variety. Online research suggests there is a controversy: 1. Error or Variety? 2. It might be a die chip, but I trying to rule out a plating bubble. Will have to put under the camera to see what I am doing. I need to get a big magnifying glass. Loupes don't work for me. You know what? I have a USB microscope coming tomorrow (supposedly) and I will do it then cuz I will likely have more luck poking at it with that scope. Report this Post to the Staff

Plating bubbles are somewhat common on these cents and sometimes show up in weird spots. John1 Moderator United States 56855 Posts	Posted 09/01/2022 05:04 am Not all plating "bumps" can be depressed. Sometimes it is zinc dust and not gas under the copper plating. A BIE is a variety and is a chipped die issue not a Cud. Check the Glossary left side of page.People do collect BIE's.BIE's are more common on copper cents,less so on copper plated "zincolns" John1 Report this Post to the Staff
