could tyhis be a die break or possibly post mint damage? I took obnoxiously close pics to see the detail of the area of focus. thanks in advance for any input!!

Nope, just damage. A die break would be raised and this is very clearly incuse.

thanks again for the feedback! I guess on this piece, the "meltyness" is what got me. ill keep that in mind in the future to look for raised obscurities. that makes alot of sense. I hope I don't become a nuisance before I'm able to actually know what I'm looking at. that's the last thing I'm hoping for here.

No one who is actually trying to learn is a nuisance. The only thing that can be annoying is people who get defensive and refuse to accept that their coins aren't what they thought they were. Not that we can't make mistakes too (unfortunately, sometimes people do get told that legit errors and varieties are PMD, MD, DDD, etc.), but if they start just asserting that it is an error without even backing that up with pertinent observations about the coin, then it just becomes annoying.

Keep in mind 99% of incuse marks (below the surface marks on coins) are post strike damage. (intentional or just a damage coin) Does not make it a mint error. Post strike damage.
