I need some advice on how to free this 1982 D Kennedy half dollar from a medallion that someone glued it to. So sad to see this beautiful coin stuck in a hole that it never should have been put in in the 1st place. *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Most probably stuck to the medallion with epoxy resin glue. To separate, a long soak in acetone (probably months), will be needed in a small screw sealed jar.
Expect the acetone to take a very long time to penetrate between medallion and coin to release the bond.

I do not think acetone works on epoxy. John1

You can try that. I think Zaylene works but be very careful with it. Read up on it before buying/using it very toxic and hard on your skin and lungs. John1

What about something similar to this? https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iOpene...ctions/11677It's used to separate glued parts of electronics like cell phones. Don't know if it would work on this but it might be worth a shot. The heat may even give the coin a nice tone

Boiling water worked for getting this 1982D Kennedy half dollar free from the medallion it was bonded to by some kind of adhesive. The boiling water even softened the adhesive enough to peal it off, little piece by little piece and with virtually no further damage to the coin

Nice extraction. Good album hole filler until better comes along.

Quote: Thanks for bringing that up. it's either the lighting or an unfortunate effect caused by having to manipulate the image several times to fit this format. I look at it with the naked eye and the only yellow I see is what looks like the begining of the toning process starting on the edge and about half way down the lettering. I regret that I don't have the proper equipment for what I trying to contribute and I apologize for that. It's also the reason that I limit myself from partaking in discussion/forums. If you have a bottle cap from a 2-liter bottle, a phone camera, and some books, it does not necessarily have to take expensive equipment. A ring light can make it even easier ($7.00 on ebay - link in linked thread): http://goccf.com/t/422658
