Die chips may be found anywhere on the face, but most times are next to areas of detail. Die Chips can get progressively larger as more and more coins are struck. It's not a Cud, as that involves the rim of the coin. When a die has broken at it's edge and a piece falls off, the resulting coins will have a Cud. If the die break is large enough it can also show an area of weakness on the opposite side of the coin. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When the coin is struck this void on the die is filled in with metal that is now raised on the coin. That is how die chips are raised on the coins.
