This is a die chip and a good one. Die chips may be found anywhere on the face, but most times are next to areas of detail. Die Chips can get progressively larger as more and more coins are struck.

It's not a Cud, as that involves the rim of the coin. When a die has broken at it's edge and a piece falls off, the resulting coins will have a Cud. If the die break is large enough it can also show an area of weakness on the opposite side of the coin.

Thank you. A nice over answer description and detailed knowledge so I am able to learn. I have posted a few other coins. If you notice. Them.

It's like the difference between a Grease Filled Die or the "iberty" coins I set aside sometimes the L is in the rim but I just like them

How are die chips raised on coin? The Die has a chip break off of the die, leaving a void. When the coin is struck this void on the die is filled in with metal that is now raised on the coin. That is how die chips are raised on the coins.

CoopHome: What makes the die chips raise on a coin? void on die, fills with metal during coin strike and will be raised

Nice large die chip find. This is the biggest one I've found so far on the 2021-p washington crossing the delaware quarter which sold for 16.27.
