Hey Everyone!
I found this coin that seems a bit strange. My immediate thought was it's simply a coin that was previously encased. What struck me as a little odd is the rim is actually doubled whereas previously Encased Coins normally have flattened rims. It also has a railroad rim around half of the coin. The coin weighs 3.07g and is the exact same diameter as a normal Wheat cent.

The only scenario I could think of that could result in something like this at the mint would be a partial tilted collar high pressure strike creating both a railroad rim and a Rim Fin. I still think a previous encasement is more likely because I've never seen a Rim Fin this extreme, around the full circumference, and showing on both sides of the coin.

Thoughts?

This coin is previously encased in one of those "lucky charm" thingies.
the machines which pressed the coins into the charm are not kind to them.......

That was my initial thought as well. That said, in doing some reading I found a lot of really great visuals that Coop has put together of coins that were previously encased. The only problem is one of the hallmarks that he flags is that these coins display a flattened rim. I have not seen any that have a strong outer rim like this. It could just be the result of a different type of encasement but it's odd that an encasement that would create this type of pressure wouldn't either distort the lettering or increase the coin's diameter.
