@mgh, while not impossible, it is much more common for die cracks to proceed from the corners of the Lincoln Memorial out to the rim on this design. It looks to me like the rim has a little circulation damage on this coin.

Looks almost like a parking lot coin that has incuse marks (from sand) on the rim. The highest devices are always the first to be damaged on a coin. The rims are there to protect the design on the coins devices from coin wear. But vertical damage to a coin, leaves an incuse marks on the surface of the coin.
