It looks to be doubled on several parts of the reverse. I took Coop's advise and tried to do a side-by-side comparison with another nickel from the same year and same mint. I do have other pictures, this is just the ones I did in photoshop. Let me know what you guys think. :)

Yep that steplike doubling reduces the width of the letters so I agree Machine Doubling.

Note on your side by side:
1. You are looking at the edges. (Insides/outsides of devices) The problem with looking at those areas, that is where Machine Doubling happens.
2. The areas where DDR's are found on the devices. These happen in a pattern. Either the devices will show doubling on the horizontal areas of the devices, (Not the vertical directions on DDR's)

Note the devices can be on the tops or bottoms of the devices in a horizontal pattern on the devices. (why?) Because of the die wear, the hub creating the new die can be fresher/more worn on the doubled dies. On these older dies, this worn hub can make the devices Taller, or shorter, it the hub is a fresher hub state. So the directions are horizontal on the
devices near the rims:

Strength also be different is there is a hub distiortion or hub location that is different:

If it is a Tripled die or Quad die, the spread can also be larger:

So on your coin, I'm seeing the vertical affect of Machine Doubling. I hope this will help you with your searches. Doing the same thing over and over, will often lead to the same conclusions. Look for the horizontal spreads. (More of the doubled dies on nickels tend to fall into this pattern. On the single squeeze dies, the doubled dies are closer into the centers of the signs. (Class 9 doubled dies) Good job on the Side by sides. Just the wrong conclusion on them. Now you know the differences. (The eyes will now know what to look for on these now)

CoopHome: Is hub doubling in a different direction than Machine Doubling? Yes and no. (But mostly yes.) Machine Doubling often affects the verticals on the devices. doubled dies can be rotational hub doubling (class 1 doubled dies) or horizontal on the class 2 doubled dies. But on more of the nickels it is often seen in that pattern of being horizontal.

Ok. Thank you guys very much! I will keep searching. Thank you for the pics Coop, putting them side by side did help to see differences. I'm getting better at telling the difference of MD and DD but always feel better checking with you guys. LOL
