Hi I found this nickel hunting thru change and I was wondering what everyone thought it might be is it post mint damage or a a outer coating issue your help is always appreciated

Damage is never an error. It is always damage to the coin, no matter how it happened, and just a face value coin.

They do not put coatings on coins at the mint. Learning the minting process is a GREAT help for identifying damaged coins as you get a feel for what can and cannot happen at the mint. Some good vids online.
