Hello :) This is my first time posting on this forum, and I'm super excited about becoming a user on such a cool website! I was looking through a jar of nickels whenever I found this weird indentation almost perfectly carved around the inside rim of this 2003 P. The indentation strikes through all of the inscription on the obverse side and follows the whole circumference of the coin. I've tried googling but can't find anything that would describe this kind of error, but am thinking that it might be some kind of minting error? Or maybe a strike through? Of course, it could have occurred post-circulation, but I still want to ask in the chance that it's an error. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you all for the kind welcome and very helpful advice! The " Ring of Death" made me laugh out loud and is such a great way to describe the damage done from coin wrapping machines I've never heard of them— wrapping machines— before, and am glad to know about the "deathly ring" so that it won't trip me up in the future when looking for error coins :) Again, many thanks!! Your expertise is much appreciated!
