Not an error. I'm seeing a dime struck with very tired dies--die deterioration. Nice example.

to the CCF and just a tired die. They run them as long as they can, as long as there is no real big damage to them.

@sup, first welcome to CCF. Second, beyond the comments above, I would add that the post that formed the middle of the letter P for the mintmark had broken off prior to this coin being struck. That is why it is all filled in.

VLDS (Very-Late-Die-State) die state when your coin was struck. A senior die example.

The beauty of youth even of a die is preferable to me:

I really like the way the metal flow lines look on some VLDS strikes. Some of the 'Sun Burst' patterns look good on these coins. I may start collecting some of the better examples.
