I'm not seeing any wear on this coin. I think it's at least MS-62.

Very nice brown coin, but it almost looks a little too brown for an MS. There's a chance it's been artificially colored, I'd verify with some xylene and acetone. Looks 64BN with a little improper going on with the obverse. Underlying red barely shows. Nice.

There was a seller on ebay, nancy something I think, that use to sell some of the nicest chocolate brown older Lincolns. All of them looked the same, too good and artificial. This one sort of reminds me of them. I agree with Thad, in to the acetone it goes. Jim |

Yea, it was nanc05483 or something like that. Actually, they were more copper colored even though advertised as +++RICH BROWN+++. I bought a 1913 from the scum and rinsed with acetone....all the coloring came off into my petri dish....LOLOLOLOL. It was just a regular, somewhat ugly surface underneath. To my amazement, he had 100% positive feedback until I came along and ruined his world. That guy must have passed several hundred of those colored coins to the market without ANYONE raising an eye-brow....dumbfounding.

I initially declined to mention, but the fields on that Lincoln looked remarkably clean--even "soft" in places on the obverse. Just look at the tops of the letters on the reverse...it's like the coin didn't even drop into a hopper after the strike. But I'm naturally suspicious, and hope the coin looks like the photo upon arrival.  |

I know which seller you are talking about on ebay. Nancy something or another. I also bought coins from them and returned them since they were for sure darkened or altered. This did not come from that person, learned my lesson there. I took a bit of a gamble on this one, but I am confident it will be ok. I dont think it was darkened, no reason to since their seems to be no wear on this coin, unless they cleaned it harshly, which I dont see. If anything, I think it might be gubered up with something not intentional (prints or gunk). Should be getting this today/tomorrow. I'll do my best to post my own pics of this before and after the acetone bath. Hope they send it in a flip and not a 2x2, that might hurt the return if I have to pull it out of the 2x2. Either way, I think its gonna be a nice one! We'll see :)  |

Well, good news! Coin turned out to be just fine after a good soaking in acetone. Close look with 16x loupe shows nothing to be worried about. Its a beautiful coin, just as good as I was hoping! Good signs of red around the devices, more then the photo shows!
Overall I'm happy with it. Big upgrade from my VF20 :)

Does dipping a coin in acetone hurt the coin? Is it considered cleaning? Thanks
