Indians are not my specialty but it sure does look to be good for a MPD. Didn't see it listed

Have you looked here for some info: https://www.indianvarieties.com/fly...e-varieties/MPD or RPD I don't know. I could not find a match on their site. On your coin I do see the bottom of the 1 and something in the denticles as well as maybe something on the inside left on the 8. John1

Actually, it is not an RPD. Whoever designed the digit punch for 1879 must have been drunk, as the nub seen on the bottom of the 1 was present on the master, so all 1879 coins have it.

Thank you for the replies. I emailed Russell at Indianvarieties so I'm hoping for a reply. It doesn't seem the reference books have a listing for this as a MPD so I'm not sure what else to do.

Hi, two observations on obverse:
1. Left relief field in front on lips and nose, a minor die clash 2. The rims may have a repunched 8--there is a potential curve underneath the 8. Maybe that's what everyone is talking about in addition to the base of the 1?

I am thinking the main PUP is in-between the denticles. John1

Thanks & good eye on that kbbpll, it does look like the same die. The lower left curve of the 8 shows the same indent line which I didn't notice on the other TrueViews. While that PCGS coin shows better detail on the diamonds, the fields and denticles are mottled compared to this coin. Whatever the feature turns out to be, it is showing up better on this coin.

Definitely looks good for an MPD to me. We'll see what Rick says, nice coin!

Finally got this back from Rick! Thanks to Smat45 for pointing my eyes in the direction of this and to John1 for helping with some links. This makes a discovery for me on a 1879 and a 1978 cent in the same month, now time to work on that 1798 I guess

Thanks JerryPicker! I can't imagine 140+ year old varieties are found that often and I'm happy to be in the club!
