Mintorspent---Not-Even-My-Coins-At-The-Moment-But-Advice-Would-Be-Appreciated

I'd be one upset man for a few days if I couldn't get however many of these coins graded. I do understand some of how this coin hunting can be exciting. It'll be hard to spend change now before checking the dates or weighing a penny if I think about it. I still got my question about damage from abrasion if anybody has advice, or if sending in coins to be professionally examined before sending them to be graded sounds reasonable.

Despite the "90's" look you will find a lot of good opinions on this forum. You'll definitely hear that its only worth sending a coin for grading if the potential value of the coin is substantially more than the cost of the TPG service, ie: $200 minimum.

Unless the 1982D Small Date is copper, there is nothing there worth much more than a cent or two each.
It would cost you around $50.00 per coin to have graded so it is your decision.

Hey appreciate the input fellas. Did not have a scale to weigh them all at the time but tried the drop test on one or two, maybe a few and got heard some sharp sounds. Not saying all of them but heard that sound from at least one or two. Besides that some have quite a yellowish tinge. Looking at the pictures now I'm glad I wasn't too thorough with that eraser. Now some advice for those they gave it, if you don't know, look it up.

to the CCF You need to stick around here for a while, to learn what to do with coins. First, why would you send in worthless coins to a grader? Second, if they did have any value to them, you just destroyed them with an eraser. Never clean or do anything to coins until you know what you are doing.

The only coin in that lot of 6 is the 1982-D Small date, (The one second from the top on the left.) It is a very high probability of that coin being a Zinc core cent that will weigh in at 2.5g. Now if it were to weigh 3.11g, you would have hit the jackpot - but unfortunately the copper ones are so extremely rare and no longer are found in circulation.

I keep all of my copper cents (1981 and before, and weigh your '82s) because they are worth a slight premium over face value due to the copper (about 2.2 cents as of the last I checked). But they're not going to net you a massive profit unless the price of copper decides to shoot WAY up.

Agree with all above. On the matter of hoarding copper cents, I held on to all copper cents found over a few decades. After gathering close to 200 lbs worth, I turned them into the bank. I only kept a few dozen that were high MS state or were clearly errors and varieties.

Thank y'all and I will report back with pictures once I weigh them but when I did the drop test on a hard surface, I heard two different sounds. The dull thud and a higher pitch sound almost like a ringing sound. Any ways does anybody know why these two pennies look this way on the back? I thought the color was interesting but it looks very gritty, the front of both of those pennies are not that same gritty yellowish color.

It looks like some sort of environmental damage
that has attacked the coin.
