Hello, I've been trying to research, but cannot find much other than that it's illegal to have. But I have a 1977 aluminum (I think) penny. Not the greatest condition, unfortunately. But I don't even know what to do with it or take it. Won't let me upload picture

tot he CCF You are going to have to supply photos of both sides and weigh it before anyone can help you. Also, what makes you think it is aluminum?

You have a better chance of winning the lottery.
But let's see some photos and weight of it.

Your 1977 could be not legitim coin. No aluminum tests perform for 1975 till 1980 and in 1977 US Mint do not strike no aluminum coins for foreign countries.

If you have what keith12 has, you've got something. But, it's not aluminum. No aluminum U.S. cents we're ever released to the public. Closest we got were coins dated 1942, 1974, and 1975, with more than 1.5 million struck bearing the 1974 date.

I know of at least one 1977 aluminum cent, it is in a NGC holder graded MS60 Cert# 3052170-003 Dealer in error coins Mike Byers currently owns it and is asking $350,000.00 for it. It is currently unique no others have been found. Mike wrote it up in the "Mint Error News Magazine: Issue #56 Spring 2021 which you can download for free here: https://minterrornews.com/It has close up photos and some background on the coin. Also wanted to add here is the story on the 1974 Aluminum cents from the Mint directly: https://www.usmint.gov/news/inside-...cent-project br /

No one of your coins here mentions was certified been a Mint essay. If one of the essay performed by outside company come out in the market it is not la legitim coin. If some one say is legitim must be direct proportional with the reports and also Mint acknowledge.

@silviosi: 1974 is covered at westcoin's link. There were 66 aluminum U.S. cents minted with the 1975 date. There is at least one aluminum cent dated 1942!in existence; it was sold by Heritage Auctions more than a decade ago.
