I was just wondering how this happens. The lettering all seems thin and normal all the way around, until you get to LIBERTY, where the LIB is thin but the rest is thick. I know it's not a double die. But is this due to die polishing? Or something else.

This looks like a good case of Die Deterioration which is quite typical of zinc Lincoln cents...

Notice the flow lines running towards the rim, a sign of Die Deterioration.
