I'm still trying to learn what to look for regarding the cleaning of Barber half dollars. Please take a look at the attached photos and give me your opinion on the coin's grade plus, if you don't mind, a brief answer to help me learn a bit more.

On the obverse side, is the contrast or "shadowing" seen between the high and low areas a natural or artificially applied effect? If both, what do you look for to flag the artificial appearance? Is this considered cleaning?

Thanks in advance. Your help is very much appreciated!

for a coin that old, you might find more experienced eyes in one of the Classic coin forums

VG10 details, cleaned
The pinkish-gray hue is an indication of a prior cleaning
Still a better date and mintmark coin and not a bad hole filler

On most circulated lower grade Barber coinage the reverse will be weaker (more worn) than the obverse

Agree likely once cleaned, but market-acceptable today. VG-10 straight.

Now this is just me...
I would make this a pocket piece for a while...
Check it at the 3 month...6 month and so on until those hairlines (esp the obv) kind of went away...
If folks a hundred and twenty years ago put em in their pocket...you can too! Just a shame "someone" tried to gussey her up...and we all know it!
Too good of a date and mm to have her labled details...
Try it on a sim coin and see what you think? Do a little search on pocket pieces and see why folks do it...
Again...this is just me.
Thanks for sharing!

I agree it would be a great pocket piece.

It's not a harsh cleaning by any means, I wouldn't be scared of having it in an album.

I agree with Mr. Frog, market acceptable.

OP is referring to the "circulation cameo" folks.
