1987 Double "O" And Mint Mark? Help

It is a D mint mark with zinc rot. Also,it would be called a doubled die not double die.

I agree, this is a zinc rot blister. The beginning of the end for this coin.

I think that the odd looking letter O in IGWT is due to a similar process.

nasty bit of work, that zinc rot is. It seems to show up near the date and MM most often - possibly due to split plating exposing the zinc when the cent was young and fresh.

I see. I have begun searching through a stash of older coins that I have been collecting for the past the 30 years or so. So I imagine the quality of these coins wouldn't be that great. But I am still hopeful and eager to find that "one" coin. Zinc rot has now become my new nemesis in my journey #128545;.and to my allies full of knowledge and wisdom I must humbly thank you all yet again for your skillful eyes and information.
