My girlfriend and I are new to this. She picked up the coin hobby from her late father. We have alot of old coins 1920s and newer. We are trying to figure out if we are doing OK. I will start with this 1976 Lincoln Penny with no mint mark, liberty bell and usa map on it. Please let us know if we are on the rite track. Thank you!

Looks like you have a counterstamped coin--a novelty. Use google to search 'counterstamped coins'. Lots of information will appear.

We both of you to CCF. Your cent was minted at the Philly mint that's why it has no mint mark and was counter stamped after it left the mint. To most numismatic collectors it is now considered PMD. People do collect counter stamped coins though. John1

this is a counter stamped cent. Some people collect them, others just consider them damaged. Officially they are post mint damage.

Counter stamped cent coins are quite common. I have one of this year as well.

Lots of these 1976 cents were counterstamped to sell as souvenirs for the bicentennial.

Welcome to CC! Counterstamping is considered PMD by collectors although some people collect them as they find them interesting.
