I inherited my grandparents coin collection, about a month ago I was looking through what I thought were really old tokens. I came across an 1854 $20 Gold Kellogg Coin. The obverse side is in pretty good shape for a coin that's been sitting in an antique jewelry box of my grandfather's, but the reverse is... Well maybe someone could tell me...

I think I know what this is. Back in the 1970s Kellogg's made a promotional money clip with a copper replica of the kellogg $20 gold piece. It looks like someone removed the replica from the clip. I have one of these money clips. Easy to verify by the weight. If I'm right, there's no value.

I was researching a little on it earlier, and a few people said the coins from the money clips have some value as well... Idk how to find out for sure what it is. I can read some of the writing on the reverse side through my coin magnifying app.

Definitely not gold, but may have some collector value. Rough shape though

What you have is a replica of a genuine Kellogg gold coin There were many made for the tourist trade in California.. It would have originally been gold plated but the plating on yours has worn off. In that condition, I see little or no value You can buy them in good condition for about $20.00 Here is an example of a replica of the reverse for your information.

What are they made from? I know it is either Gold, Copper, or Brass. It's not magnetic at all. My scale needs batteries so I can't weigh the coin yet. I will reply with the weight and size as soon as I get them.

I do not think gold corrodes, so it cannot be gold.Weight would be a big help. John1

Welcome to the community. I agree, not a genuine gold piece, modern copy.

This is not gold.
I don't see any value here.
