Surface of this dime is fairly lustrous on both sides, with neither side showing any sign indicating surface wear or pitting, and discoloration is of the alloy it seems as there does not see m to be any paint or grime coating. The edge is about half black, half copper.
To the left of the D mintmark, there seems to have been another mintmark previously, in hand it appears to have been an S, but don't think I was able to capture the detail with these photos, and it could be even just a light strike through even, I'm not sure at all, only know there is clearly something there to the West of the D.
Any input would be appreciated, coins that I post are for my personal collection only, not to seek value, just not sure how to label it lol.

discoloration is usually environmental damage, and the S is Pareidolia, but it's still out of the ordinary and some people collect coins with interesting colors
Rest in Peace

Yes it happens with dark toned Dimes that look like copper cents .

Thank you Nick, and I agree that is likely, specifically due to placement of any anomaly in a spot that I would want to see something

Cool...if we could un-nail it though for a sec, just so I can be clear, which type of environmental damage is it that blackens part of the clad and shows the copper layer in other parts, while remaining unpitted and not removing lustre though?

Yes only worth 10 cents, which gives you a 9x profit. Seen from that viewpoint, you made out pretty good!

Yes Silviosi, and I do apologize as I see the photo came out blue on the obverse photo. The Reverse photo captured the dark color better, which is a dark grey. Like a deep shadow, but not quite black. Some clad extends to either side of the dark areas and on the high flat areas of the devices, and the rest of the reverse is a copper tone that in places reminds me of a penny that has been cleaned, more pink than orange if that makes sense. The obverse is mostly the darker grey color, with again clad on the highest spots of the devices, and the copper tone in the lighter area at the field to the southwest of the bust. Even the dark areas and copper toned areas have a shine, while the clad areas display lustre.
I do appreciate all of the input, whatever y'all think it is will be how I label it.

Normal Business strike coin. (Area too small to be a mintmark)
