The reverse of this well worn penny has some extra material on the right most wheat. Not sure what to make of it. I initially passed it off as abuse, but the blob of extra material appears to show the texture of the wheat and I see no sign of adjacent removed material.

@lit, I was expecting to see a die chip, but I don't think that this is what you have there. Rather this looks more like a struck through a hunk of copper foil or similar. I'm not sure though and look forward to a vigorous discussion among our members.

If it were a die chip, the die could have an incuse void on the die and a raised area on the coin. The area you are looking at is incuse, so it is coin damage to your coin. Just a Wheat cent now.

Looks like pushed metal from center so it is just damage.

It could be a flake from a flawed planchet. It it were mine, I would pick at it with a toothpick. But it's not mine, so I'm not suggesting that Little Shard do it.

Thanks for the input and advice.

The area in question is raised. I did pick at it and it is solidly part of the penny. The discolored area to the right is flush with the surrounding background.

Thanks again!
