Could this possibly be a Die Break on this 1988 Lincoln Cent?

I wasn't thinking it could be a Cud. Of course, I'm new at this, and my terminology could be all mixed up. Anyway, it looks to me like an overlay sheet that could be peeled off, and the "fold" extends down into Lincoln's face. That is why I was thinking this as being a die issue. And the "spiked head" is pretty cool, too. I was focusing so much on the other that I didn't even notice that die "event." It is so faint that it disappears on other angled pics. (That is 2 spiked heads in a month...) Can a Cud be flat like that? Don't mind me, I got me a new toy (a Tomlov scope), and I am still trying to figure it out. The negative picture is pretty cool.

A Cud is a die crack that starts out at the rim and goes back to the rim. That piece of the die has broken completely off. There won't be any design or letters in the Cud. Nice spike head.

After reading both definitions, the simplest difference, is loss or no loss of metal from the die. A crack is just a fissure in the die but no loss of metal and a break is when the die actually loses some amount of metal, that falls from the die. Both definitions are in this link from LCF, just scroll down to each. http://www.lincolncentforum.com/ter...logy-list-d/

In my mind,I know I know...a die crack is a die that cracks leaving a raised line and a die break is where a crack runs from rim to rim breaking the die in two pieces.Am I way off or not? John1

The crack is just a fissure in the die, imagine a canyon. When the coin is struck, you get the opposite, a raised area. A break does not have anything to do with the rim but the rim can be involved. A break is when a piece of the die actually falls out or at least becomes separated from the die. When this die is struck, it fills the coin in with metal and is also raised. It's as simple as part of the die not falling out or falling out. An exception to this is an RIDB, where the piece of die has separated but stays in place during the strike.
